SIOP: Shelted Instruction Observation Protocol
The ESL Program has been learning about SIOP as a model for instructional planning which will benefit the district's English language learners (ELs). Because of the increasing number of students and their families who speak one or more languages other than Englsh (lote), ESL teachers and regular classroom teachers must plan lessons which will address both the academic proficiency and the English language proficiency of ELs.
The SIOP Model is "a framework for organizing instruction which supports teachers in planning and delivering high quality instruction for all learners" with features and components specifically critical for English language learners.
